Ravel Piano Trio in A minor

The Duke’s Piano Trio
Christopher White piano

Jessica Hayes cello

Alan Uren violin

Schubert’s first piano trio was completed in 1828 and published as Opus 99, eight years after his death. Curiously, Ravel’s Piano Trio took a long time to emerge, reaching completion at the onset of the World War I in order that Ravel could enlist in the Army.

The Duke’s Piano Trio have chosen to play these works together to show the effects of eighty six years of cultural development and to highlight the difference between the Viennese and French influence on the same musical genre.

The Duke’s Piano Trio has been chosen by the Festival to represent its Emerging Artists Scheme. The trio, comprising individual award-winning artists, in addition to which Alan Uren was leader of the National Youth Orchestra, formed in 2007 and took its name from the Duke’s Hall at the Royal Academy of Music where they won the Harry Isaacs Prize. Since then, their reputation has grown considerably, and through the Festival’s scheme will be recommended to other arts organisations.

This concert will last about an hour.
