The inspiration behind this recital lies in the tragedy and loss of life on this great ship in 1912. From the jubilation at the outset of Titanic’s journey to the fear of impending doom, coupled with feelings of devastation and hopelessness, the amount of material from which to choose for this programme was vast. After considerable thought and discussion, Caroline MacPhee and Anna Tilbrook have produced a programme that is moving in the extreme. Amongst the myriad songs chosen, are poems by John Masefield and Thomas Hardy.

Soprano Caroline MacPhie is well known for her Lieder recitals, has many operatic roles under her belt, has sung at Glyndebourne and is much sought-after for oratorios with the Philharmonia, the Hallé and with the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge. One of the most distinguished pianists in the chamber music scene, Anna Tilbrook has collaborated with many leading singers including Ian Bostridge, Lucy Crowe and James Gilchrist.
