Camaraderie Quartet:

Emily Armour soprano

Sarah Denbee alto

James Robinson tenor

Tim Murphy bass

Martin Ford director and organist

Since 1662 the Book of Common Prayer has played a major role in the lives of Christians throughout the world. Indeed, for many it is as important to their very existence as is the Bible. That this version, now 350 years old, should still be in use today is nothing short of a phenomenon. There is a popular modernised form but for many the beauty of the old English words has remained one of the few constants in an ever-evolving world. Tonight’s concert commemorates one of the truly significant anniversaries in 2012, arguably more so than any other.

Soprano Emily Armour and Martin Ford, assistant organist at Westminster Abbey, have spent many hours researching a programme dedicated to the Book of Common Prayer. It traces the history, its usage over the passage of time and its role in shaping the tradition of Anglican church music. With anthems, arias and some Psalm settings by Purcell, Gibbons, Byrd, Handel and Parry, promises to be a really moving concert.
