Cadenzas

For those who aren’t quite sure what a Cadenza is, this programme will reveal all. Most concerti contain them (usually first and last movements), and it’s true to say that they provide the soloist a chance to, quite simply, show off their technical brilliance. Whilst composers wrote their own cadenzas, taking themes from the movements concerned, others, composers and soloists alike, took it upon themselves to write their own versions. Here is a chance to discover what the cadenza is all about – from a delicate approach to OTT as Glen Gould version will prove. With pianist Ashley Wass demonstrating every type of cadenza on the market, this really is a programme not to be missed.
