Chopin Ballade in A flat major Op.47, No.3

Sudbin’s carefully chosen programme is tailor− made for the Festival’s Bosendorfer piano. The instrument lends itself to romantic repertoire and it’s interesting to note that all the works in this recital were written between 1835 and the early part of the 20th century. Both Chopin’s Ballades and Liszt’s Transcendental Studies were composed at the same period but reveal total contrast in style. Chopin’s Polish background is reflected in his many compositions, mazurkas and polonaises being good examples. Medtner was a younger contemporary of both Rachmaninov and Scriabin and, once again, these works in the programme |
