Celebrating its tenth anniversary
this year, the New London Chamber
Ensemble has rapidly become one of
the leading wind groups in Britain. The
members are highly established players
in their own right who came together as a
result of a passionate love of performance.
In addition to Longstaff’s long-awaited
premiere of Permutations, they will be
performing Walton’s eccentric Façade
based on poems by Edith Sitwell. Many
of the poems were published at the close
of the Great War with the orchestral and
narration settings appearing in 1922. Narrator,
Quentin Poole, has a particular affection for
Façade and it is one of the discs he chose as
guest on Desert Island Discs in 1970.
